Seeking eco-feminists to explore and learn more together

I facilitated a workshop on eco-feminism for a group of 20-30 people at the Alternative Vegan Festival - nervewracking!

I felt very supported by my friends and I met some feminists I didn’t know before, so, hurray!

The main defining feature of the workshop seemed to be that we wanted to know more about this subject. I really feel like I barely know anything about it and, as I said in the workshop, I decided to do it because I want to explore and learn more about eco-feminism and no one else had said they would do one. (I do love DIY events - if you want something, you make it happen!)

I closed the workshop by inviting participants to commit to one thing they would do to end patriarchy and save the planet. I chose to join Climate Rush, whose tagline is “well-behaved women seldom make history” - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich.

Climate Rush is a community of people who don’t want to sit back and do nothing, and who won’t let evil triumph. Non-violent, direct action, inspired by the Suffragettes.

So, I’ve just joined the mailing list and written this post; let’s get on with it.

    :)

Feminists UNITE at Bar Woteva, in 18 hours… :)

Feminists UNITE for a night of queer performance at Bar Woteva, a free night out.

Come and join us at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, Tuesday, 21st September. Which is practically now! We’ll be there by 8pm (doors open at 6pm), for a screening of a film about Woteva.

Some of us will be dressing up to get in on the performance vibe, but you certainly won’t be alone if you’re not costumed. :)

It’s 372 Kennington Lane, London SE11 5HY, roughly five minutes walk from Vauxhall station in South London.

    Come, feminists, join us!

Supporting women instead of reporting back on UK Feminista Summer School

Weekend of feminist education, empowerment and excitement

I was preparing to provide a comprehensive report on the amazingness that was feminist summer school. Instead, a friend and I have been supporting each other; because that’s what was most important tonight.

So, until tomorrow, here are a few links to some of the earliest pieces I’ve seen about UK Feminista's Summer School; plus excellent footage from it.

Footage from our fabulously feminist summer school

    Articles about our amazing weekend

Bonus link! My feminist tweeters reading list

    i-am-the-lighthouse:

    Quotes on Porn and Prostitution

One of the “light bulb moment” lines for me was: “We’re prostitutes… There are differences. You can choose your partners, and they’re tested for AIDS - you won’t get your john to do that. But we’re prostitutes: we exchange sex for money.” - Porn actress ‘Chloe’, quoted in Martin Amis: A Rough Trade

    Watching The Price of Pleasure

I watched The Price of Pleasure the other day; it was distressing. I recommend watching it. You might want to have some support structures in place. (I know that I felt much better being flanked by awesome lovely people whilst watching it!)

We’re showing it for free at Pogo Cafe next Monday, at 7.30 pm.

    Come and join us!
