One of many tactics - loudly rejecting sexism. Join us!
Last night, I walked away from a conversation as soon as a friend mentioned they were going to tell an anti-feminist joke.
I made the right choice for me - I don’t want or need to hear poison; I get more than enough anti-feminist stuff streamed at me in my daily life as it is.
I can’t imagine my friends telling anti-anti-racism jokes. What’s the difference?*
I felt really glad that the idea to leave came to me so easily and that I was able to just leave; it was a really empowering position for me.
And I wasn’t alone; every time those perceived as women challenge sexist crap loudly, proudly, with rage, with poise, with confidence; I grow stronger, I see more options opening to me, I gain confidence, I learn, I grow.
Rise, women! Rise, us perceived as women! Rise, us socialised as women! Rise, us political women! Rise, us survivors of sexism! Rise, us victims of sexism! Our revolution is now. Rise, rise, rise!
*In my view, the difference is that racism is less socially acceptable than sexism, in some ways.
