Seeking eco-feminists to explore and learn more...
I facilitated a workshop on eco-feminism for a group of 20-30 people at the Alternative Vegan Festival - nervewracking!
I felt very supported by my friends and I met some feminists I didn’t know before, so, hurray!
The main defining feature of the workshop seemed to be that we wanted to know more about this subject. I really feel like I barely know anything about it and, as I said in the...

Supporting women instead of reporting back on UK...
Weekend of feminist education, empowerment and excitement
I was preparing to provide a comprehensive report on the amazingness that was feminist summer school. Instead, a friend and I have been supporting each other; because that’s what was most important tonight.
So, until tomorrow, here are a few links to some of the earliest pieces I’ve seen about UK Feminista’s Summer...

Surrounding myself with 350 feminists at our... →
The first day of the UK Feminista Summer School was brilliant.
I was really inspired by Denise from Eaves; to the extent that I decided I want to volunteer with that organisation. (It looks like they’re not looking for anyone at the moment; must remember to keep an eye out).
I didn’t like the focus on going through the government, law and police. I think it’s really important...

Watching The Price of Pleasure
I watched The Price of Pleasure the other day; it was distressing. I recommend watching it. You might want to have some support structures in place. (I know that I felt much better being flanked by awesome lovely people whilst watching it!)
We’re showing it for free at Pogo Cafe next Monday, at 7.30 pm.
Come and join us!

How Sexism Hurts Men, Part 2: Why Do I Care? →
Great article about how sexism sucks for everyone, regardless of gender, whilst not losing sight of the fact that usually those read as women are more adversely affected.

Musings of an Inappropriate Woman: "We are all bad... →
Point is, each and everyone one of us is politically imperfect…
What about you? In what ways are you a “bad” (or good) feminist, and how do you navigate these ambiguities to be a “better” one?
I love this tumbleblog!

Another post about rape, as anonymity for "rape...
*TRIGGER WARNING* This article talks about resources for survivors of sexual assault, including rape, and rape culture and rubbish news from UK politics.
I’ve been thinking about rape and rape culture a lot recently.
Over the weekend, one situation emerged where someone ignorant and unwilling to listen & learn was doing the rape denial thing. I’ve been wanting to address the...

One of many tactics - loudly rejecting sexism....
Last night, I walked away from a conversation as soon as a friend mentioned they were going to tell an anti-feminist joke.
I made the right choice for me - I don’t want or need to hear poison; I get more than enough anti-feminist stuff streamed at me in my daily life as it is.
I can’t imagine my friends telling anti-anti-racism jokes. What’s the difference?*
I felt really...

Dreamworlds 3: Desire, Sex & Power in Music Video →
Dreamworlds 3 examines the stories contemporary music videos tell about girls and women, and encourages viewers to consider how these narratives shape individual and cultural attitudes about sexuality.
Illustrated with hundreds of up-to-date images, Dreamworlds 3 offers a unique and powerful tool for understanding both the continuing influence of music videos and how pop culture more generally...

Musing on setting up feminism groups that do...
I was chatting about this idea with some friends, after a queer meeting.
I’d like to start a group that specifically and explicitly excludes people with unchallenged male privilege.
I’m a member of three women-only feminism groups and it’s brilliant to have self-defined women-only spaces.
I’m a member of two mixed gender feminism groups too and they’re important...

Discussing feminism
I bumped into an old schoolmate and they asked me what I’m up to lately. So I said, activism, mainly feminism. We had a conversation about it.
What’s feminism about now?
The same as always: Women’s liberation, equality and challenging oppression.
More concretely, for me, it’s about challenging rape culture, raunch culture and pornification. More generally, my main aim...

Chasing after perpetrators of street harrassment
Last night, I saw a male-bodied person harassing a female-bodied person. She told him to “fuck off” and he starting complaining that he “only wanted to talk”, so I started following him in order to tell him to stop. He decided to leave her alone before I got there. So I continued home, singing and pumping the air in feminist joy. (Yes, really)
In other news, yesterday, I...

Party with feminists this summer
I baked cupcakes for a feminist fundraiser with a friend and then I went to the party. It was absolutely amazing. So many brilliant female poets, plus excellent writing workshops and scrummy food. Thanks Feminism in London 10!

Speak out about male violence against women
Today, I spoke out about male violence against women.
It was particularly difficult because it was about emotional violence directed at me. The perpetrator is someone who has since arrived on the queer anarchist scene, that is, in space that previously was especially safe for me.
I told two of my friends over the last two weeks. They supported me so well - listening, encouraging, checking in....

Speak out about abuse and enable others to do so...
Walking home at nearly 2 am, I saw a man holding a woman, pinning her arms to her sides and shaking her. I stopped, shocked, and forced myself to make eye contact with him. I thought he might stop the violence when he could see I was watching, but he didn’t.
He stopped shaking her, but continued being aggressive.
I slowed down, but continued walking, crossed over to the other side of the...
